Happy Pythagorean Theorem Day!
The P6/7 class was challenged to find which day this week is Pythagorean Theorem Day. This is when the sum of the squares of the first two numbers in a date, equals the square of the last number in the date. All who took up the challenge realised the special day was Wednesday 16/12/20 (16 squared + 12 squared = 20 squared). The children were rewarded with hot chocolate for their efforts and continued the celebrations with triangle crafts. They folded circles to make equilateral triangles and used these to produce impressive Christmas decorations. They investigated links between equilateral triangles, hexagons, trapeziums and scalene triangles and finished the day by using triangles to make Christmas cards.
